About RentingRights
Written by the RentingRights team, based on official GOV.UK guidance. Last reviewed: 2 June 2026.
RentingRights helps renters in England understand their rights in plain English. We turn the official rules of the Renters Rights Act 2025 into clear, practical guidance so you can work out where you stand and what to do next, without wading through legal jargon.
Who runs RentingRights
RentingRights is an independent legal information service operated by Olivian Group Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We are not a law firm, we are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by the government. We built this service because the rules changed significantly on 1 May 2026, and many tenants told us they could not find a straightforward explanation of what those changes meant for them.
Our editorial standards
Every guide on this site is grounded in official sources. We use the guidance published on GOV.UK, the UK government's own website, reproduced under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The underlying source is the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Wherever possible we link directly to the relevant GOV.UK page so you can read the original for yourself and check our work.
We write in plain English, avoid jargon, and try to be precise about what the law actually says rather than what people assume it says. When a point is uncertain or depends on your specific circumstances, we say so clearly.
Our credentials and their limits
We take accuracy seriously, but it is important to be honest about what we are and are not. We provide legal information, not legal advice. Legal information explains what the law says in general. Legal advice applies the law to your individual situation and can only be given by a qualified solicitor who has taken on your case.
For that reason, nothing on this site should be treated as a substitute for professional advice. If your situation is complex, urgent, or high stakes, please consult a qualified housing solicitor or contact Shelter on 0808 800 4444, which offers free housing advice.
How we keep content current
Housing law and official guidance change over time. Our team reviews each guide against the latest GOV.UK guidance and records a last reviewed date so you can see how recent it is. When the law or the official guidance changes, we update the affected pages. The content across this site was last reviewed on 2 June 2026.
England only
Our guidance covers the private rented sector in England. Renting law is different in Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, so please do not rely on our content if you rent outside England.
